Arrive in Surabaya before noon, where your driver and guide will meet you for a scenic drive to Malang. Upon arrival, undergo a short medical check-up, a standard procedure required for Semeru trekkers to ensure safety and fitness for the climb.
Enjoy your evening at leisure in this charming colonial city, preparing for the adventure ahead.
Accommodation: Hotel in Malang
After breakfast, board your 4WD vehicle to Ranupani Village (2,100 m) — a peaceful settlement surrounded by apple orchards and lush mountain forests.
Begin your trek through rolling hills and alpine vegetation, passing along scenic mountain trails for approximately 13 km. Around midday, you’ll arrive at Ranu Kumbolo Lake (2,400 m) — a serene turquoise lake nestled in the heart of the Tengger mountains. Enjoy lunch by the water before continuing the ascent to Kalimati Basecamp (2,700 m), an open savannah with stunning views of Semeru’s smoking crater.
Set up camp and relax while watching the dramatic plumes rising from the volcano under the starlit sky — a truly unforgettable sight.
Accommodation: Camping at Kalimati
At midnight, begin the most challenging and rewarding part of your expedition — the summit push.
Ascend through steep volcanic sand to Mahameru Peak (3,676 m), the “roof of Java.” Reaching the top at sunrise (weather permitting), you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking view of Java’s volcanic chain, with the smoking crater of Semeru beside you.
⚠️ Please note: for safety reasons, trekkers must remain at least 500 meters from the active vent.
Descend back to Kalimati for breakfast, then continue your hike to Ranu Kumbolo for lunch. In the afternoon, trek back to Ranupani, where your 4WD awaits to transfer you to Cemoro Lawang (Bromo area) for a well-deserved rest.
Accommodation: Hotel near Mount Bromo
Before dawn, embark on another 4WD jeep ride to Mount Penanjakan (2,700 m) for a spectacular sunrise over the Bromo–Tengger–Semeru National Park.
