By the 17th century, the kingdom shifted to Klungkung, ushering in a golden era of Balinese art and culture.But Klungkung is not only known for glory,it is also remembered for its bravery. In 1908, the last Balinese kingdom to resist Dutch colonial rule, Klungkung became the site of the historic puputan: a ritual mass suicide led by the King and his court in the face of conquest.
